FIONA'S COSTUME GALLERY
Fiona is the youngest of the group and in terms of costume design is one of the hardest to create costumes for. She spends most of the time with her aunts and participates with them in their adventures, but is not a Picket like them...or is she? In putting together a wardrobe for her I had to walk a fine line between adolescence and adulthood- too young for a kid but not quite there as a woman either. There is a reason for this, as becomes apparent in the stories that are being written unfold. She is a soul caught between worlds that are in upheaval, and her clothing reflects it. She is heavily influenced by the elderly women who raise her, and her aunts, especially Virginia. She also has to conform to the rigours of peer pressure and the needs of her school in terms of uniforms. Finally, there is a wild child of nature part to her that bubbles to the surface from time to time, as shown in the picture of her swimming with dolphins. Thus, some of her clothes look very old and traditional. Some clothes look quite modern (and like nothing I would let any daughter of mine be seen in public with!). Finally, some of her clothes sits on that design line I was talking about. Fiona is also the only character I had to create a school uniform for, as seen in the main RG gallery. The gymnastics uniform shown here is an extension of that. I must confess I enjoy working on Fiona's costumes the least of the characters created so far. Maybe that will change with the passage of time.
