VIRGINIA'S COSTUME GALLERY

I have loved designing costumes for Virginia. The very nature of her character made it loads of fun to come up with these pieces, especially where it came to building in the bow motif which is present in almost article of clothing she wears- even if it is only the bow tied in her hair. The battle armour, (number nine in the gallery), was first designed for the calendar I created last year. It is an unlikely outfit to wear in action, but the fact Virginia does wear it says much about her. Make no mistake, however. It may look fussy, but she is almost invincible when she dons it. The bow dress, in its various incarnations, is also a Virginia trademark, designed for different climates. The evening gown was something I kept simple on the advice of a student, who wanted to use a variation of this design for her prom dress. I don't know if she did. It would have been interesting how the gloves were attached. I gotta admit it...that one's a mystery to me. I had a lot of useful feedback from a number of women while creating these costumes. I hope you like them as much they did.

Virginia's wardrobe caused a lot of trouble for me. Because of the nude body template which underlies the costumes, and the fact that Virginia's outfits are mostly white, I used a lot of white-out on the original drawings to clean up certain areas, and then had to paint over the scans once they were in the computer. It was time consuming more than it was troublesome. Had I made up my mind to stick with white when designing the original template, I would not have been so detailed in the original work. Oh well...something to think about for future reference.
