I have seen a lot of people creating beautiful fan art from many anime series, but beyond some line drawings like the ones on the fan art page, I really haven't explored too much of this world. Until now. Asuka has been one of my favorite characters from this classic series, and the issue surrounding her childhood, the mental and physical abuse she endured, and her latent overcompensation for a crippling lack of self esteem left me with the idea for this piece. Here, with the richly symbolic doll looming large in the monocrhomatic background, she reaches out to her younger self with a reassuring hug. Or is it the child is comforting the young adult? I'll leave that up to you.
This piece was done in colored pencil with graphite in the background.
