Petra is the most powerful of the girls, being a series 6 prototype picket designed more for armed confrontation in space. Diplomacy sub-routines are limited, and as a result, Petra generally has little to say to anyone, unless the subject at hand is baking. Petra is passionate about baking and, will never miss an opportunity to spend time making something delicious in the galley of her cruiser, the AURORA, or in her quarters on Earth. Petra is also a sad character, being constantly modified and tinkered with by the military. As a result, she is restless and finds it hard to make friends. She does not know who to trust, and is desparate to make a connection with someone who will not betray her. Because of interference from the military, Petra's attempts to forge loving relations with her sisters are often frustrated. Naomi and Molly have the best success in trying to end-run the establishment to help their little sister. (On a personal note, I created Petra BEFORE I watched NEON GENESIS EVANGELION. When I first saw Rei Ayanami, and thought there was a resemblence, I delved into the world of NGE and then became a great fan.)

PETRA 2006 MAKEOVER

The Rei Ayanami issue with Petra has always bothered me. The focus of the makeover, while retaining the uniquely coloured hair, was to style it differently. A little joke was played out in the 2006 calendar, where I had an image of Petra flying in formation with a Gloster Javelin aircraft owned by Naomi. Look at the hair. It is in fact a model of Rei's hair I found online. I couldn't resist, as I was already putting the final touches on the makeover process when I did the piece. Petra has retained the same body and facial features as before, but I have given her hair beloning to the Poser 6 young boy model, Ben. She looks a bit more like Tasha Yar from STAR TREK:THE NEXT GENERATION, but I'm not complaining, especially as I actually saw Denise Crosby at a sci-fi convention in Toronto in 2005 and thought she could have been one of the more interesting actors on the show if she stayed. Petra's skin has been given a blue-gray tint to it, reflecting the fact she has been modelled on more militaristic lines. I've also added some extras shadows on parts of the body, but did not add too much in the way of blemishes. Thus, her skin and body features are in some ways more like Naomi, suggesting the Picket Works were taking an aesthetic step back in her creation.
