Virginia, a series 4 Picket, is the diplomat and schmoozer of the sisters. She organizes all the gatherings, is very details oriented, and quite fussy at times, earning her the nickname Princess Frou-Frou. Privately, however, she can display a wild side, never shown to the public at large, or her adoring groupies, known as the Virginians. While she is younger than Naomi, many often mistake Virginia for being the 'older sister' of the Rocket Girls, which offends her sense of vanity intensely. Virginia carries standard series 4 armaments, never having been upgraded because no time was ever available to take her from the front lines long enough. This makes her vulnerable to a variety of emerging threats in space, forcing her to use her wit and charm even more to get her way. Fiona, is by far, however, the most difficult challenge facing Virginia, however, being the essence of the modern teenaged daughter rebelling against parental authority.
VIRGINIA 2006 MAKEOVER
James Burke would love this story. This makeover is all Virginia's fault. Well, Virginia and Degas' famous sculpture "The Little Dancer". In 2004, I watched a documentary on Degas' famous work, and was inspired to make my first CG movie, "Still/Life", converting dear Virginia into a statue and filming her from different angles. The film was quite popular with friends of mine who saw it and the source of a few jokes as well. When I was finishing up the film, though, and saving the model, I accidently took the marble texture applied to Virginia and gave it a flesh colour. The resulting effect was like looking at blood vessels below transluscent skin, and I had to explore this further. Like Sean Connery in MEDICINE MAN, however, I had 'lost' the formula along the way and it was some weeks of backtracking before I was able to reproduce the effect. Yes, I took notes... I also set about using Virginia in one of my classes experimentally as a clothed drawing model. Students liked her, but hated the Poser 4 hair, which we nicknamed 'ice cream hair' because of its reflective lumpy texture. I spent the rest of 2005, when not working on other projects, working with Virginia to create a new texture map and address the hair issue. That led me to shop online for new models, update to Poser 6, and get into the whole world of CG animation. The final skin texture map is subtly filled with moles, spots, and shading to bring out the body more. The hair is something I acquired from a third party source, (Kozaburo, I think), called Alice Hair. It works for Virginia, who needed straightening out. However, I may go back to curly hair if I can find a model that will work. I tried Poser 5's hair models, but they took so long to render they were useless in the class if I needed quick access to them. Finally, the bow comes from the Anime Doll, and I'm really happy about this, as it means I no longer have to create it by hand in Corel Photopaint. This should mean faster renders, and more pictures.
